The Power of Preparation: Celebrating IID Students’ Success at Model United Nations in new york

The International Institute for Diplomacy (IID), with whom I have been cooperating to teach public speaking to prospects attendees of the Model UN experience, strongly believes that public speaking is not merely a skill but a cornerstone of effective diplomacy. This belief was recently reaffirmed in a truly rewarding way: several students whom I had the pleasure of coaching in public speaking achieved remarkable success at a major Model United Nations simulation in New York a few weeks ago.

Francesco (Commissione CCPCJ), Annachiara (Commissione CSW), and Beatrice (Commissione UNEA) all saw the resolutions they presented approved — a testament to their preparation, dedication, and diplomatic spirit. Their achievements are not just individual milestones; they reflect the value of investing time and effort into mastering the art of public speaking ahead of such significant events.

Model United Nations simulations are highly demanding environments. Participants must not only demonstrate a thorough understanding of complex global issues but also communicate their ideas persuasively, build consensus, and react to rapidly changing debates. Public speaking training prepares students to meet these challenges confidently and effectively, allowing their ideas to shine and their leadership qualities to emerge.

Witnessing the success of these young diplomats is a reminder of why we do what we do. Training sessions, mock debates, feedback loops — all of these steps matter. They build not just skill, but also the poise and resilience needed to thrive on international stages.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Francesco, Annachiara, Beatrice, and all other students who took part. You have truly left your mark. Your achievements are a source of pride and a clear demonstration of how preparation and commitment open doors to excellence.

At IID, we look forward to continuing this mission: preparing the diplomats, leaders, and changemakers of tomorrow to speak, act, and lead with confidence.
