Disruptiveness matters

profile_picI need to write. I have always had. That doesn’t mean I’m good at it but why not sharing my thoughts instead of keeping them in an old drawer (or and old ASUS from 2001)?

The title of this blog marcoRecorder plays with my unusual Italian name Marco Ricorda.

I am the Social Media Manager of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. Previously, I was the Digital Strategist for the European Union at Expo 2015, Social Media Analyst at the Directorate General for Communication of the European Commission and Press Officer at Bruegel the Brussels-based think tank for international economic policy.

I have a degree in Diplomacy and International Relations from Bologna University and a Master Degree in European Studies from Maastricht University. I guess I didn’t have much of a choice than ending up in Brussels.

I volunteer as Insight Analyst for Italian think tank Lo Spazio della Politica and as Marketing and Communication Executive for my second family: the Brussels Barbarians Rugby Football Club. Since May 2013 I also support the Associazione Terzo Tempo, a non-profit association based in Italy founded with the aim of helping, raising awareness and show solidarity to people facing disabilities caused by sports-related injuries. More recently, I became very active in the Brussels-based Yelp community.

I talk about social  media, digitalization, strategic communication, life in Brussels and occasionally on international politics. I also blog about my travelling, the latest of which turned into a chapter called Middle East Chronicles.

Some of my posts have been published on a number of national and international outlets including:
Lo Spazio della Politica, The Eurobubble blogWaltzing Matilda Blog, Cafè Babel, AgoraVox, Bruegel Blog, The Expositor, ParmaEuropa,

My work has also been quoted by The Guardian, La Stampa, Il Tempo

Find me on:

I often do public speaking. My participation in panels include:

  • European Broadcasting Union
  • Italian Festival of Digital Journalism
  • INFORM/INIO conference – The EU-wide INFORM network of communication officers
  • Expo Milano 2015 Communication Network
  • European Direct Information Centres Communication Network
  • Rete di eccellenza dell’italiano istituzionale

I’m looking for comments and engagement, not broadcasting. Happy to hear your comments (especially the negative ones!).

  1. Ciao Marco,

Starebbe comunque a te scegliere.

Se sei interessato, mettiti in contatto tramite la mia mail, o su twitter @andreagentilil.
Disponibilissimo anche a prendere una birra insieme a Bruxelles.

Buona serata e (quasi) fine settimana
